WICK AND WICK LIFE

The idyll of Wick (Wiche in the Domesday Book and Wikewane in Saxon times) in rural Worcestershire is small with only 200 homes (approx.). Despite its size, Wick enjoys a broad range of community activities and clubs to enrich village life. At the focal point of the parish is St. Mary’s Church and the imposing Wyke Manor.

Amenities include the Wick Club, a residents only social club and an excellent playground which sponsors sports and fun events annually.

St. Mary’s Church
At the heart of Wick is the wonderful St.Mary’s Church which dates back to the 12th century and is the oldest surviving building in the village. Originally only a chapel of ease without right to burial, bodies had to be carried to the Abbey in Pershore. Today, the Church provides a full range of community services and hosts many charitable events including the fête itself.

Wick Wives
Prodigious describes the activities of Wick Wives which was established in 1970. Whether baking cakes for the many Wick events, litter picking, carol singing, hosting monthly talks with guest speakers, quiz evenings, skittles, helping to run the fête ~ and at the same time collecting for charities ~ Wick wives are really active.

Wick Gardening Club
Green fingers? Worried about your roses? The club provides a forum to explore all things to do with plants and gardening.
The programme of events includes specialist talks and visits to gardens.
Wick also participates in the National Garden Scheme with many gardens open to the public. Huge numbers visited in 2011 when a record number of residents opened their gardens to visitors.
We are hoping to beat record attendance in 2013.

Wick Photographic Club
Competent photographers and those not so skilled are welcome to join the village’s photo group. Monthly meetings include presentation of images taken of selected themes, technical presentations and assisting each other with f-stop, white balance and other photographic issues.

There are also regular photo-shoot outings and the second edition of the group's calendar will be ready for 2013.

FIELD

Space does not allow a full description of all Wick activities including Wick Walkers, Friends of St Mary’s, Wick Playground, Ladies’ Afternoon Club and
Men’s Lunch Club. There are also scrabble, artist and knitting groups and many more. Many of the community groups raise significant funds for their chosen charities.

The Wick Parish Council has produced the Village Plan “Wick 2020” and ensures Wick is heard and represented at local government level.
